Nov 21- Prompt: Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and spending time with family over a nice dinner. Write about your most unforgettable meal.

Every meal that my grandma cooks is unforgettable. The classic Appalachian cooking is unbelievably good and never gets old. Every moment I have with my grandparents is precious. Though I can't name one particular meal, I know that every meal I have with my grandparents is idyllic. Summary: Today we took a quiz. Reflection: I bettered my quiz taking skills.

Prompt: Write about a time when you realized you needed to look out for yourself in a silly or harmless situation—maybe dodging a pop quiz, escaping a group chat argument, or remembering at the last second to submit an assignment. How did choosing wisely make your life easier?

A time that I realized I had to look out for myself is a constant decision I make. I often choose to get important assignments done when I get them. This gives me more free time and takes a load off of my back every time. My constant choice makes my life much easier. Summary: Today I stayed home. Reflection: This journal prompt helped me pull back information from my memory and better answer a prompt.

Prompt: Describe a time that you had an encounter with a homeless person, either directly or indirectly. What did you think and how did it make you feel?

I have had many different encounters with homeless people, some were slightly scary while some were pleasant. I love being able to give back to homeless people and it offers a great time to pray with them as well as connect them with the Lord. I never see homeless people as anything less than what they are, ordinary people just like everyone else. I think everyone that sees a homeless person should do what they can to help them out. Summary: Today in class we read part of a short story and answered questions. Reflection: I learned how to better my reading comprehension and skills.

Prompt: Write about what you are thankful for.

I am thankful for food, water, family, God, fish, nature and the roof over my head. Without all of these things I wouldn't be able to live life, so I am very thankful. Summary: Today in class, we went over vocabulary section 5. Reflection: I bettered my vocab.

Prompt: The last scene forces readers to reinterpret Emily’s entire life. Write about a moment when new information changed your perception of a person or situation. How did that “plot twist” reshape your understanding, the same way Faulkner’s ending reshapes the story?

When I first heard about Jesus and who he was, it changed my perception of life. I found a purpose in life and I now know the true meaning. This changed my life for the better and I began to live my life as a Christian. I still struggle today but getting to know the Lord has been the best plot twist in my life. Summary: Today we took a quiz on a rose for Emily. Reflection: I got better at assessments.

Prompt: In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

I have heard many crazy stories. The most shocking being those of cereal killers. I never understand why anyone causes such tragedy for so many people and it raises the question, what do they gain from that? The story of Jeffery Dhamer really stands out to me. It is shocking and disgusting that he would ever kill so many people and do the things that he did to them. Summary: Today we finished reading a rose for Emily. Reflection: I learned how to better analyze a text.

Prompt: Miss Emily’s house once represented pride and tradition, but over time it became a symbol of decay and isolation. Describe a place that holds deep memories for you—positive or negative—and explain how it reflects part of who you are or how you’ve changed over time.

A place that holds deep memories for me is my grandparent's house in a small town in Virginia. I have learned so much from my grandparents which is makes this place have such significance. I also love the mountains and all the adventures my grandpa and I have gone on in the mountains. The classic Appalachian food that my grandma makes has always stuck with me. All of these factors have played a huge role in the significance that this place plays in my life. Summary: Today in class we read part of a short story. Reflection: I learned how to better answer questions in a timely manner.

Prompt: Think about the vocabulary words from Lesson Two. Write about a time you saw or heard one of these words outside of the classroom — maybe in a movie, song, social media post, or book. Describe how it was used and whether the context helped you understand the word better.

I have heard the word metamorphosis many times as a young child and even today. When I was younger, I heard the word metamorphosis a lot in the context of butterflies. As I grew older I gauged a better understanding of what the word truly means. I learned a lot about metamorphosis in biology class and throughout many times in my recent life. Summary: I stayed home today, Reflection: I learned more vocab.

Thinking about “The Rockpile,” which parent or guardian in your life has been the strictest when it comes to discipline? Explain how their approach to discipline has influenced you or shaped your behavior.

Neither of my parents have been very strict when it comes to discipline. They have taught me the difference between right and wrong and have not punished me much when I have done wrong. Their approach has taught me a lot and I appreciate the way they have raised me. I've learned how to deal with my mistakes and this has greatly pushed me to be better. Summary: Today we worked on our PowerPoints. Reflection: I learned how to better analyze quotations from a text.

Thinking about "The Rockpile," what is something your parents forbade you from doing when you were growing up? Explain what it was and why they might have set that rule.

When I was young, my parents forbade me from riding my bike out of the neighborhood. They did this because they were fearful of the busy roads outside of our neighborhood. They also worried about the danger of me being a little kid riding around. Although they had set this rule, I rarely followed it. Summary: Today we worked on our PowerPoints. Reflection: I learned how to better analyze quotations from a text.

Words shape how we think, write, and interpret literature. Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

There have been many times when learning a new word or understanding a specific term has helped me better express an idea and better analyze a text. One specific time is when I was reading a text and was able to find out what a certain word meant using context clues. This always helps me become a better reader and better with vocab. Over the years, as my vocab got better, I have learned so much. Summary: Today in class we took a test and finished our one pagers. Reflection: I bettered my test taking skills.
