Prompt: As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

I have enjoyed this class a lot. I really like Mr. Reese’s teaching style and I have I have learned a lot from that. My favorite assignment that we did is when we made our own poem and presented it to the class. Making my own poem challenged myself and I was able to truly express myself through the poem. One area where I feel I need support is in my vocab. Summary: I stayed home. Reflection: I learned how to better reflect through the blog post.

Prompt: Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

One tradition that is important to my family is going up to Virginia after Christmas. Every year after Christmas, my family and I go up to Virginia to visit our family. I really enjoy this tradition because I get to see my family and also have a second Christmas. Summary: we didnt have class today. Reflection: I bettered my writing skills with the blog post.

Prompt: How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

The holidays have changed a Lot as I’ve grown older. The reality of the hardship that many people feel during the holidays has set in. Although the holidays aren’t as bright and special to me as they used to be, I still think it’s a fun time of year. Summary: Today I stayed home. Reflection: I bettered my writing skills with the blog post.

Prompt: Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Something that I've outgrown but still miss is believing in Santa Claus. Every Christmas Eve I was so excited for Santa to come I could hardly sleep. Santa adds so much spirit to the holiday season and I really miss the excitement I felt as a young kid knowing that Santa was coming to visit my house. Summary: Today we took the Vocab quiz. Reflection: I bettered my test taking skills and vocabulary.

Prompt: Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Something I can't stop thinking about is camping. I have been eager to go camping again even with the cold weather. Camping is very peaceful and always a great time. I love getting outdoors and really being able to connect with nature. I cannot wait to go camping again. Summary: Today we got our final project and chose our classes. Reflection: I had a good time in the library.

Dec 9- Prompt: Post the picture of your cultural identity mask onto your blog. Write a reflection about the creation process of the mask or presenting it to the class.

While creating this mask, I really had to look deep into who I am. I had pull out the inward parts of myself and apply them in a creative way. A way the describes who I am. This mask represents me and the parts of my life that are very dear to me. Summary: Today in class we had to present our masks. Reflection: I better learned how to present in front of others.

Prompt: Write about the best gift you have received.

The best gift I have ever received is the gift of salvation. I am thankful every day for the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus. He has changed my life for the better ever since I received him. This gift stands tallest among any other gift I have ever received. I am very thankful and wouldn't give this gift of salvation up for anything. Summary: Today I was not here, I went to the courthouse to get my passport. Reflection: I learned how to better look back in my life and write a journal prompt based off past experiences.

Dec 5- Prompt: After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

A part of the short film that stood out to me is when the main character decides to take off her mask and walk around with her face exposed. This represents the boldness that is spoken of in Langston Hughes' poem, "I, Too." I want my mask to represent my love for Christ and how every journey through life is different, but no matter what path you are given or what path you take, Christ is always there. Summary: Today in class we read the poem "I, Too" and watched a short film. Reflection: I learned how to better analyze, compare, and contrast two different stories/poems.

Dec 4- Prompt: In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

I am very proud of my Appalachian heritage. Both sides of my family currently live in the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia. I love everything about those mountains. From the culture, including food and music, to the scenery, everything about the Appalachian Mountains I love.  Summary: I was not here today. Reflection: I learned how to better reflect on my own cultural identity and heritage.

Dec 2- Prompt: In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

When I was younger, my neighborhood friends and I used to go over the train tracks behind my house to reach this bamboo forest. To get to the forest we had to cross over a fairly deep creek by walking over a fallen tree. While walking over this fallen tree I fell into the water. For some reason my shoes had not been on all the way, and I ended up losing a shoe. This taught me that things that seem cool and fun may not always turn out to be that way. Summary: Today we read "We Real Cool" and analyzed different thing that were "cool" and "not cool."\ Reflection: I learned how to better relate my personal experiences to a poem/text.

Tell me about your break.

Over the break I went to Virginia to visit my grandparents and cousins. It was a great time, I always enjoy visiting the mountains. We had 2 amazing thanksgiving dinners. The weather was very cold with the high being in the mid 30s some days. Overall, I had a great break and cannot wait for the next one. Summary: Today in class we worked on vocab. Reflection: I bettered my vocab and understanding of vocab.
